![]() As soon as people realized they needed cash to buy their precious consumer items, everyone made a beeline to nearby bank machine and folks started taking out ludicrous amounts of cash, not for a moment thinking that others might also want to take out a bit of money to buy food and fluids. It quickly became survival of the fittest or a grown-up version of Lord of the Flies. I also noticed that almost immediately after the internet went out, people became very, very irritable and incredibly selfish. It’s ridiculous what these people have to put up with. We honestly need to at some point, as a society, go to therapy and find ways to stop unloading our garbage on these retail workers – or at least pay them the same as we do psychologists. A number just began making rude remarks to this poor café employee, as if she was responsible for the entire thing. ![]() I was shocked at just how many seemingly-reasonable people couldn’t quite process this information. The first thing I noticed (as I did during the Great Blackout) was that no matter what the circumstances, no matter where we are, what difficulties we are facing or what language we speak, our gut instinct seems to be the same – blame retail workers for all of life’s problems.
